Another Henderson County cold case solved
Is justice for Shelley Watkins next?
Hi everyone!
There’s been an important update connected to Season 1: The Labor Day Ghost.
The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office announced on Friday that the 1987 murder of Rickey Herriage has been solved through DNA analysis. Rickey’s body was found beneath a bridge in Henderson County nearly forty years ago, and the case remained unsolved for decades.
I talked with Carol to find out what solving Rickey’s case might mean for finally getting justice for Shelley Watkins.
She said that back in 2019, Sheriff Botie Hillhouse attended a sheriff’s conference in Austin. While there, he asked for advice on two of the county’s cold cases — Rickey Herriage’s and Shelley Watkins’. They recommended sending the evidence to Pure Gold Forensics in California for more advanced DNA analysis.
Sheriff Hillhouse sent evidence from both cases at the same time, and now, one of them has been solved.
With help from Pure Gold Forensics, Othram Inc., Season of Justice, and the FBI, investigators identified Dallas Reynolds Casanova as the suspect in Rickey Herriage’s murder.
For Rickey’s family, it means long-awaited closure. And for those who have followed Shelley’s story since Season 1, it brings hope that answers may not be far behind.
Carol said, “We all are keeping our fingers crossed that we’re also getting an answer about Shelley very, very soon.”
As always, thank you for supporting the work we do with The Unforgotten.
