Hey there!
Just wanted to say hi and let you know that Carol and I are gearing up to record our next bonus episode of The Unforgotten, Season 1: The Labor Day Ghost soon. I don’t know the exact release date yet because we’re still working to shore up a few details in our reporting. I have to say, it’s really incredible that people are still finding their way to the podcast and to Shelley Watkins’ story, and y’all are continuing to come forward with useful information about Shelley’s unresolved death.
If you’ve been thinking about sharing what you know, please reach out! Every little bit helps—and what you know might be more useful than you realize. We’re discreet, promise.
Season 2 bonus episode coming soon!
Also, Charlie Scudder, the talented journalist who brought you Season 2 of The Unforgotten: Unnatural Causes, is preparing a new episode to share a very exciting update in the years-long effort to protect our loved ones from criminals like Dallas serial killer Billy Chemirmir. Charlie hasn’t told me when the episode will be ready, but I bet you’ll be able to hear it in the next week or so.
Season 3 also coming soon!
Speaking of other seasons of The Unforgotten, I’ve also been working with a couple of talented reporters to bring you Season 3 of the show! The guys have mostly finished writing and reporting the series. We’re heading into the studio for a couple of days next week to record the episodes. I’m excited to share this one with you. Look for Season 3 to launch in late summer.
Okay, last update for now …
Introducing Better Outside, a new podcast from the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department
A month or two ago, I reached out to Morgan O’Hanlon, a great writer for the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, to ask about an older story she wrote for Texas Monthly called “If a Mountain Lion Didn’t Kill Christopher Whiteley, What or Who Did?” The death of Christopher Whiteley still haunts me, four-and-a-half years after he was found near a dry creek in rural Texas. I’ve always wanted to know what actually happened to Christopher that day.
While Morgan and I were catching up, she mentioned that she was knee-deep in creating a new podcast about Texas nature and wildlife called Better Outside. I was intrigued and offered my services. Long story short, TPWD ended up hiring me and a couple of my colleagues (Aislyn Gaddis and Austin Sisler, whose name you might recognize from the credits on most of my audio projects) to handle a good chunk of the production. We’ve been editing the episodes and providing the sound design and engineering, and it’s been extremely rewarding now that episodes are actually rolling out.
The first two episodes of Better Outside are out now—and wow, y’all! This is a fun show. The first one is about the reintroduction of desert bighorn sheep to West Texas. The second episode is about a feral hog bounty program. If you like nature in Texas, and you’re looking for your next listen, I highly recommend you check it out. Look for Better Outside on Apple and Spotify and all the other usual places.

Better Outside is a great little show with episodes coming out weekly.
In yet more unrelated news, I was back home in East Texas over the Memorial Day weekend for lots of family fun and togetherness: a nephew’s high school graduation, a niece’s birthday party, and the premiere of the latest “Mission: Impossible.” The movie was a bit of a stinker, in my humble opinion, but my cousin got to fly an Air Force jet in a couple of scenes, which was super cool. He kind of rolled his eyes because we were all making such a big deal out of it.
Okay, enough rambling from me. We’ll be back soon, with more important stuff to share next time. We hope you’re having a good start to summer! — Wes Ferguson
